GUJRANWALA: A demonstration was staged by the Jamaat-e-Islami against US President Donald Trump for threatening Pakistan in which hundreds of activists participated.
The protesters led by Hameedud Din Awan marched on Pasrur Road and chanted slogans against the US and India. They also burnt Trump’s effigy and urged the Pakistani government to give a befitting reply to the American president’s threatening remarks.
Motorway police: The motorway police have set up four special control rooms in different cities – Gujranwala, Jhelum, Murree and Kherabad – to provide relief to the public during the Eid holidays. North Zone DIG Abbas Ahsan has directed all SSPs, DSPs and officers of the operations wing to check overcharging and overloading of passengers in PSVs especially during Eid days. The surprise/snap checking will be carried out at different places. On-the-spot action, including returning of overcharged fare, would be taken against the delinquent transporters.
Census: In the recent census operation, the total population of Gujranwala Division has been increased to the figure of 16 million – 7,993,077 males and 8,129,968 females. According to the new census report, the total population of Gujranwala district is 5,014,156 (2,533,117 males and 2,480,828 females), in Gujrat district the total population is 2,756,110 (1,335,339 males and 1,420,628 females), in Hafizabad total population is 1,156,957 (584,823 males and 572,083 females), in Mandi Bahauddin district the total population is 1,593,292 (776,205 males and 816,971 females), in Narowal the total population is 1,709,757 (841,950 males and 867,712 females) while total population of Sialkot district is 3,893,672 (1.921.643 males and 1,971,746 females).
Arrests: The Anti-Corruption Establishment has registered cases against two patwaris (revenue officials) on the charges of record tampering, while the deputy commissioner has suspended both the officials. It was reported that there were allegations of record tampering against Naveed and Azam, while during the inquiry the allegations were proved. The authorities registered cases against the accused officials and sent a report to the deputy commissioner, who sacked both the revenue officials.
