LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq said on Saturday that Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution guaranteed the solidarity of the country.
Addressing a public meeting at Chakdara in Dir on Saturday, he said that if the present constitution was tampered with, the nation would never agree on a fresh constitution. “The nation will fully resist any move to drop Articles 62 and 63. The corrupt are trying to hide their corruption and to escape disqualification through their efforts,” he said.
Haq urged the SC to bring all the corrupt elements, including generals, judges and politicians, to accountability and also take suitable steps to retrieve their illegal wealth lying abroad. “If accountability is only restricted to Nawaz Sharif, the process will remain incomplete,” he said.
The JI chief declared that a CPEC that ignored Malakand would not be acceptable. “It will be gross injustice to deprive Malakand of its opportunity for development,” he said.
He said that at present, the country and the nation were confronted with threats both from within and abroad. “US President Trump is threatening this country. However, some people want to change the constitution that guarantees the country’s solidarity,” he said.
Haq, however, said that the nation would not yield to Trump’s threats. He said the time had come for the US to pull out of Afghanistan after its humiliating defeat and the world would be free from the hold of the sole world power. He further said that the US dream of building India as a regional policeman would never materialise.
Referring to the Foundation Day of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Haq said that the JI which had been founded by Maulana Syed Abul Al Maudoodi 76 years ago, was now the voice of the millions of people in the country. He said the JI had evolved the culture of honesty and integrity and it had the distinction of being the only political party that was truly democratic.
He said that various national and international surveys had accepted the Jamaat-e-Islami as a progressive and democratic party. “The JI is striving to build Pakistan as a model Islamic state,” he said.
