KARACHI: The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) has announced the Press Council Committee for the tenure of 2017-18. Zia Shahid has been appointed as chairman and Jamil Athar Qazi as deputy chairman of the committee. A statement issued by Secretary General Aijazul Haq states that the Press Council Committee has been approved in the last session of the standing committee’s meeting. According to the statement, the formation of the committee aims to perform an active role to chalk out a joint line of action in respect to code of ethics of journalism, freedom of press and to examine the functioning of the Press Council of Pakistan and measures for its overall improvement. The committee will have to submit its suggestions/recommendations to the standing committee. Other members of the committee are Arif Nizami, Wamiq A Zuberi, Shaheen Qureshi, Kazi Asad Abid, Aijazul Haq, Aamer Mehmood, Rehmat Ali Raazi, Mehtab Khan, Anwar Sajidi, Tahir Farooq, Dr Jabbar Khattak and Siddiq Baloch.
