ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the seeking disqualification of Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif for being an employee of a foreign entity.
The petition was filed by a PTI leader Usman Dar on the instructions of party chairman Imran Khan. The petition accused Asif of being involved in money laundering of millions of rupees.
“Asif concealed his iqama (work permit) and did not declare it. Despite holding a public office, Asif was working for a foreign company,” the petition stated.
It said that the details of agreement with the foreign company had already been made public. The petitioner contended that the foreign company had transferred millions of rupees into Asif’s account.
He stated that Asif had declared himself a businessman in the ‘asset declaration form’ filed with the Election Commission of Pakistan, but he had turned out to be an employee a foreign company. He said Asif had not even declared the salary he withdrawn from the foreign company in his income tax return.
According to the iqama available on various websites, Asif is an employee of a company based in Dubai and drawing a monthly salary of AED50,000 for his services as management consultant. After his iqama, his work permit and labour card was also released on the media.
