ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has fixed application of Sharif family expressing reservations over the working of joint investigation team (JIT) for hearing.
The members of the Sharif family including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz and cousin Mian Tariq Shafi had approached the top court expressing reservations over functioning of the JIT, which is investigating Sharif family’s offshore business dealings in pursuance of the top court’s April 20 verdict in Panama case.
The top court has directed the registrar office to fix the matter for hearing on May 29 (Monday) before the three-judge implementation bench.
A three-judge implementation bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan has been supervising the investigation being carried out by the six-member JIT. The bench has already expressed satisfaction over the interim report of the JIT during the course of last hearing.
Sources said that notices have been issued to the applicants including PM’s son Hussain Nawaz. Sharif family members have informed the Supreme Court regarding the ‘discriminatory’ behaviour of two of the JIT members with them.
Sources added Sharif family has raised objections on SBP’s Amer Aziz and SECP’s Bilal Rasool.
The application by Sharif family says that SBP’s official Amer Aziz had links with former military ruler Pervez Musharraf and had tasked inquiries against the Sharif family in the past. Likewise, SECP’s Bilal Rasool was stated to be a close relative of former Punjab governor Mian Azhar, who is now a member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the source maintained. Another objection on Bilal Rasool was that he had been an activist on social media accounts against ruling PML-N and the Sharif family.
