ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday reiterated its demand for immediate resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar ‘in the best interest of the country’.
Addressing a press conference, Asad Umar said that the premier would not have been in this situation if he had resigned 15 months before. “The PM would have to resign now. They showed resistance in the matter but it would have been better for him if he had stepped down under his own will,” he said.
Recalling Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s statement, he said that the premier himself said he would go home without a moment delay if any wrongdoing was proven against him.
On record tampering, Umar said, “Dar Sahib! You have appointed your friend as SECP chairman, who is facing a case now on the apex court’s orders.”
Shafqat Mehmood asked the finance minister why SECP Chairman Zafar Hijazi remained at his post despite top court’s order of registration of a criminal case against him for his involvement in alleged record-tampering. He reiterated his party’s call for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to step down. “Prime minister’s capacity to rule is diminished as he is now tainted,” Mehmood said.
Fawad Chaudhary, however, claimed that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will resign or will be disqualifies till next Thursday. He said that the PM has lost moral ground to continue.
“There is no record or data available on PML-N’s source of funding and there is big disparity between accounts of Nawaz Sharif and PML-N,” he said, adding that the accounts of PML-N Khyber Pukhtunkhwa chapter had not been audited for last several years.
