LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC), on Monday, asked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s lawyer to provide the documented proofs of bank transactions verifying the transfer of funds used in the purchase of Bani Gala property.
A three-judge bench, chaired by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, resumed the hearing of the case on a petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hanif Abbasi seeking the disqualification of PTI chief.
Imran’s lawyer Naeem Bokhari argued that his client’s former wife Jemima gave Rs 6.5 million to her husband as a gift to purchase Bani Gala property and the money was returned.
He also presented Jemima’s email before the court, verifying that Khan has returned the 562,000 pounds.
Justice Nisar directed Bokhari to bring financial transactions to prove his claim about the return of money.
Pointing towards Imran’s lawyer, Justice Nisar said, “You had not disclosed before that Khan’s ex-wife Jemima had given Rs 6.5 million as a gift to him”.
“It was a simple case but it has been made so much complicated,” he added.
Bohari reiterated that the financial issues between husband and wife are their personal matter.
Bokhari also assured the court that he will submit a complete reply regarding the transfer of money from the account of Niazi Services Limited (NSL) to Jemima’s account.
The petitioner’s lawyer Akram Sheikh will present his arguments on October 3.
